About this Blog - About Colin

This blog was built to update everyone with Colin's medical progress and to have a place where people can share information. When I first started the blog, the donations were thought to be for all of the medical expenses. Then Colin had an extended hospital stay (a lot of which was ICU and surgery). Now, with this tremendous loss, the funds donated are to help Kelly maintain the everyday family expenses/bills. Any additional funds will be directed to the children's funds through the donation function on this page. We will continue to maintain this page as different events are scheduled. Please continue to check back. I just wanted to let everyone know how very grateful the family is and how the prayers and support help so much during these very dark days. A little information about Colin. He is a father. He is a husband. He is a brother. He is a musician. He is a friend to many in the New Orleans area and beyond. He works in the service industry. Through his many years as a bartender/manager, he has touched so many lives by just being Colin. He loves his family and he loves his city! Pre-Katrina, he ran Nick’s Bar and was in a local band. Although Nick’s bar and the band did not survive Katrina, he believed in New Orleans and was one of the first residents back in the city. He helped many people transition back to the city that he loves and calls home. He has always been a friend to everyone. If you needed anything, he would be there for you. If you would like to contribute, please do so using the donation option on this blog. You can also post the blog link on your facebook account. Kelly's spirits have been lifted all of the posts and pictures. Blog and pictures below:

Thursday evening update

It has been almost a full day since the latest surgery. Colin is still in the ICU. The surgery yesterday was necessary to get more of the infection. They ending up having to remove three of Colin's ribs to get to the infection. There will be some on going care needed due to this. They were able to take the breathing tube out this morning and he is breathing on his own. Of course this is good news. Tomorrow, he will need to be put back under as they change out the dressing on the new surgical wound. This is part of the on going care that is going to be necessary. Being put under is due to the extreme pain that is experienced with changing of this type of dressing. I know I'm leaving out a lot of detail, but know that it will be better that he can't feel what they have to do to change the dressing. I will post updates tomorrow as he is in the recovery room and we know more. Please keep up the encouragement. It is still very needed. If you want to send a note, please send it to:careforcolin@gmail.com

  1. Forgive my medical ignorance, but when they removed his ribs to get to the infection, do they put them back?? Such pain to endure. Hang in there Colin.

  2. Just wanted to post a quick clarification and provide a little more information- they took out part of three ribs to get to the infected area. Also, I know that many of you want to know what all of this is called or what has caused this ordeal. I wish I could give you a simple answer. There are many things happening at once and the situation is fluid. Infectious disease has identified some fungi and bacteria, but they are still growing out cultures. In short, there are no easy/clear answers, and the details are too complicated to put down in a simple narrative.

He seems to be that one case that doesn't fall into the usual course of things. But he's staying strong, and we both appreciate the support from you all. I also have to say that his doctors and ICU nurses have been wonderful, never forgetting that Colin has this whole other life to get back to. They have earned my admiration and have my lasting gratitude.
